Our flock wallpaper is the work of craftsmen and is worthy of maximum care and attention.
COLE & SON FLOCK WALLPAPER IS A ‘PASTE THE WALL’ PRODUCT. DO NOT PASTE THE WALLPAPER.
FLOCK WALLCOVERINGS SHOULD ONLY BE INSTALLED BY AN EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONAL DECORATOR.
Follow these instructions for “NON-WOVEN FLOCK WALLCOVERINGS", if you are unsure, please call customer service +44 (0) 208 442 8844.
Before hanging, check that rolls are undamaged, that the product code and batch reference are the same for each roll, that all colours match and that you have enough rolls to complete the job. Please check which way up the design should be and if in doubt, speak with your retailer or view images online at www.cole-and-son.com
It is the responsibility of the decorator to ensure the wallpaper is correct and, during hanging, to check there are no visible faults. No claim for hanging costs in excess of one roll will be accepted.
Check the label included with your roll(s) for the match point.
The wallpaper matches edge to edge with the next drop to form the pattern repeat.
The wallpaper can be matched edge to edge at any point.
The wallpaper is lowered on the second drop to create a diagonal effect pattern repeat.
To prevent white edges showing at the seams, dark coloured wallpapers may need their edges colouring with a slightly lighter chalk or pastel.
To ensure a perfect finish, walls should be prepared correctly; all holes should be filled, walls should be smooth, dry and cleared of any debris. Walls must be primed and if necessary cross line with lining paper. Lining paper helps to even out slight imperfections acting as a base for your wallpaper. Turn off the power and remove all faceplates and socket covers.
Do not hang over glossy or non-porous areas. Painted walls should be rubbed down to remove grease or soiling and glossy paint should be rubbed down with sandpaper. Pre paste porous wall surfaces such as plasterboard or chipboard. Never hang over new plaster or un-primed walls.
Foil background designs can be damaged if high levels of alkaline are present in the walls. If in doubt, prepare the walls with an alkaline resistant primer before hanging. We recommend lining walls where highly metallic papers are being installed. If lining paper is being installed it should always be hung horizontally, following manufacturer’s instructions, and be allowed to dry completely.
We recommend using Cole & Son tub paste for hanging our wallpapers. If if this is unavailable, we recommend using a PH neutral, solvent free, starch based, ready mixed tub paste with fungicide protection marked for ‘non-woven’ wallpapers. PVA or PVC type adhesives are not suitable as they may cause surface staining or adhesion problems. DO NOT USE SELF-MIX ADHESIVES. ALL PURPOSE AND HEAVY DUTY PASTES ARE NOT SUITABLE.
This is a ‘paste the wall’ product, do not paste the wallcovering. Paste should be evenly applied to an area slightly wider than the width of the roll. Do not apply paste to the whole wall. Paste as you go, pasting just wider than the drop you are hanging. Any excess paste on the ceiling, skirting etc. should be gently removed with a clean wet sponge before it is allowed to dry.
FOR OUR FLOCK WALLPAPERS WE RECOMMEND USING A BRUSH RATHER THAN A ROLLER TO PASTE THE WALLS ENSURING THAT A THIN AND EVEN FILM OF PASTE IS ACHIEVED.
Butt joins together, and as this is a flocked wallcovering, use only a clean, soft roller, NOT a decorator’s brush to smooth down the wallcovering, working from the centre to the edges to remove air bubbles.
Avoid squeezing paste out of joins and ensure paste does not get onto the brush or roller. No paste should be allowed to come into contact with the surface of the paper and hands should be kept clean and dry whilst handling the wallcovering.
PASTE WILL DAMAGE THE SURFACE, PARTICULARLY FLOCKED AREAS. Cole & Son cannot accept responsibility for marks or damage caused by paste. Should any paste have been allowed to come into contact with the surface, it should be lightly sponged off whilst moist, using a clean, damp sponge.
After each drop has been hung, trim top and bottom with a sharp knife. After hanging one roll, the wallpaper should be inspected; the decision to continue is the responsibility of the decorator. Cole & Son will not consider any claim for wallpaper hung in excess of one roll.
Once hung and allowed to dry, residual excess flock fibres can be gently vacuumed using a brush attachment.
To ensure a consistent finish, use your hand to firmly smooth the flock pile in a single direction, up or down, depending upon your preference. This helps to orientate all the flock fibres in the same direction and produces a more even effect. Before starting, please ensure that your hands are clean and dry.
Ensure that the room has good ventilation and the heating is turned off. Allow the wallpaper time to dry slowly at room temperature; do not attempt to dry it quickly as shrinkage may occur.
No claim for hanging costs will be accepted for goods in excess of one roll.
Check all wallpaper within 14 days of receipt; please notify your supplier of any faulty product. Cole & Son cannot accept any responsibility after the wallpaper has been hung. In the event of a complaint, the design reference and batch number on the label will be required.
