Cole & Son launches new Banbury collection
Cole & Son launches new Banbury collection at Maison et Objet 2011
Leading wallpaper manufacturer Cole & Son is unveiling the Spring/Summer 2011 collection,
Banbury during Maison et Objet in Paris: 20-26 January 2011. This re-establishes the offering of traditional designs from the British pedigree upon which the foundations of the brand were built in 1875 and brings it up-to-date with modern motifs.
Following in the footsteps of the vibrant 2010 ‘Frontier’ collection, Cole & Son has revisited its celebrated archive, which dates back more than 300 years, to create Banbury, a collection which encompasses elements of classical design such as trellises and flowers whilst adopting a contemporary twist with the use of colours for a fresh look.
Banbury, influenced by trends merged from two periods of time, caters to the loyal Cole & Son customer already familiar with the classic patterns mixing these with modern colour-ways to create a contemporary feel, which will also appeal to new customers too.
Simon Glendenning comments; “We wanted to create a small scale collection, showcasing modern trends that link to Cole & Son’s traditional archived designs through new colour palettes and effects. Using classic and simple tones with the trellises and buttons typical of Cole & Son, we are bringing out a collection with a traditional style on the one hand and a contemporary edge on the other.”
Oak Leaf - Printed in a range of colours including blue, olive, off-white and aubergine, this nature-inspired design from the 1820s works to create a modern effect for the traditional oak leaf in an all-over foliage print incorporating acorns.
Lily of the Valley - This classic Cole & Son botanical print is layered with a spectrum of green tones to convey a 3D effect upon backdrops of black, blue and off-white.
Stone Trellis - Optical geometric patterns created from a thick trellis boldly printed in olive, blue, black or white on the delicate off-white background gives a modern take on this traditional design.
Sprig & Spot - A soft, simple flower print on a spot background dating back to 1870s is patterned in pastel colours in white, blue, olive and mustard, to create a country feel.
Victorian Trellis – A beautifully vintage medium-sized trellis design in two-toned bolds and pastels, including olive, off-white, grey, brown and purple.
Medallion - Off-white varying medallions, resembling star-shaped antique buttons are printed on a background of rich earthy colours including mustard, olive, terracotta and aubergine.
Plumbago - Neutral colour-ways enhance the brightly coloured trailing flowers for a stunning, contemporary looking paper. Shades include purples, blues, pinks, reds and neutrals on differing backgrounds to compliment the bold flower tones.
Georgian Button - A simple, sophisticated white button print on a background of pastel colours of lilac, lemon and olive. The blue and cream options feature a gold print version of the design for a lux modern take on this classic.
Button Trellis - Pastel backgrounds feature the classic design in grey, lemon and olive whilst the blue, off-white and terracotta incorporate the gold print version for a richer finish.
Maltese Cross – The classic understated cross print is patterned in-between a trellis on pastel backgrounds including beige mustard, pale blue and pink.
Maxims – Dating back to the 1850s design, metallic trellises in gold or silver outlines create an almost holographic effect on stone, green-blue, mud and terracotta backgrounds, achieving an autumnal effect with the use of leaves.
