Leading wallpaper manufacturer Cole & Son is unveiling its Autumn/Winter 2010 collection during Focus at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour: 26-29 September 2010. Frontier depicts an era of travel and discovery, in particular the culture, imagery and themes of Colonialism and the Far East.
The collection’s 12 designs have been sourced from Cole & Son’s archive, which dates back more than 300 years; many of the designs have not been in production for over a century.
Stepping away from the usual Cole & Son colour palette the Frontier collection includes smaller complementary patterns to coordinate with the large scale designs, creating a contemporary collection.
Tropical Birds – these exotic birds are from an original 1950's design by Una Lindsey, the same designer who created the classic Malabar. Printed in a range of colours – from off white on a putty background to striking emerald green, the design works beautifully with Feather Fan to enhance the detail within the birds.
Great Wave – a dramatic four colour design, unaltered from the 19th century original in the Cole & Son archive. Rendered in black and white, bleached neutrals and washed-out blues.
Cowcumber – originating from the 1950's, this botanical style design has been simplified and re-coloured in earthy tones.
Feather Fan – a soft Asian-inspired geometric pattern, enlarged from the original design. Printed in a selection of colours from the simple white on grey to a subtle lustre on a deep blue.
Water Lily – a bold contemporary design, giving reference to the giant lily pads. Available in three colourways: white on white, gold on brown and off white and black.
Geisha – an oriental landscape with a contemplative woman standing at the water’s edge. The clever design incorporating warm colours can be interpreted as sunrise or sunset.
Tile - an optical geometric design influenced by North African tiled courtyards, creating a Moroccan-style sanctuary.
Silk - inspired by luxurious 19th century Indian fabrics, the design's padded effect adds depth to any room. Available in five colourways.
Gondola – evocative of a romantic Japanese journey, this oriental design is available in three vivid colourways: charcoal and gold, deep purple and fuchsia, teal and amber.
Wisteria - a rich, multicoloured design, available in four colourways including a black gloss finish new to the Cole & Son printing techniques.
Cocoa – this life-size design of the Cocoa plant can be used for a striking feature wall or incorporated with the 'Stipple' paper, to decorate an entire room.
Stipple - these plains are coloured to complement the collection’s individual designs.
